Hi! I’m Hannah, a sensitivity reader, book reviewer, and aspiring intimacy coordinator for film and theater.
I specialize in sensitivity reading (also known as authenticity reading), mainly for depictions of Japanese/diasporic Japanese American culture, LGBTQIA+ narratives, and representation of a variety of mental health issues. That being said, I also cover some other more niche topics as well - a full list of my qualifications can be found linked above!
I first started my sensitivity reading journey when I came across a video of a book reviewer whose mental health was severely affected by an insensitive and inaccurate portrayal of a mental health condition that they live with. And as someone who has also often struggled with feelings of sadness and injustice when some of my lived experiences have been portrayed badly in books and on screen, I decided that this was something important I could do to make sure that this kind of thing never happens again.
It has helped that I have always loved reading, and actually, when I'm not working with authors and manuscript writers, I specialize in reviewing nostalgic “throwback” YA novels, contemporary stories about female friendships, and non-fics about intersectional feminism from a sensitivity reader's POV. All of my reviews can be found on my (book)stagram and Goodreads.
Let's work together to make the book community a safer place for everyone!
